Sunship was formed in 1997. There have been some changes from the initial members, and the current members are Takashi Namiki (ss, ts), Shunji Murakami (p), Satoshi Kawasaki (b), and Kazushige Kitamura (ds).
The band is named after John Coltrane's album, Sun Ship.
The band color is influenced by Coltrane, but Sun Ship's unique color is strong, aggressive and lyrical.
